The Cedar Community Hall has been designated as a Warming Centre or Reception Centre in emergencies when declared by the Regional District of Nanaimo.

What does this mean to you?

  • When there is a power major power outage, flood or large scale destruction of properties then the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) can declare the hall as a place for people to go and get out of the weather. The site would be open as long as there are volunteers available.
  • The Cedar Community Hall is equipped with an emergency power generator for heat and light and has a well for water.
  • In the event of an emergency the RDN can declare the hall open and will provide light food and coffee for anyone that can make it.
  • It is a place to come and get water and join others during the emergency.

How will we know it is open?

  • The first notices will be a messages on your mobile phone and over the radio.
  • If you are in the area, then you can travel past and there will be a sign open to let people know.
  • There will be notices posted during the emergency on the RDN web site though this may not be accessible during outages so make sure you check all other sources.

Volunteers?

If you live in the Cedar area you may want to have your name entered as a volunteer. You can contact your RDN representative and let them know. Volunteers are required to help open the hall, prepare warm and cold drinks and help give directions to people coming in.
